UK Shipping information
It is important that you have a clear idea of the cost of shipping your item particularly into the territory you are selling.
Once you have calculated the cost, add it to the price for your item - packaging & shipping should be included in your price!
Please set out the shipping costs (including reasonable packing costs) clearly in the listing so that potential buyers understand how much this will cost and also outline whether you are prepared to ship to Europe or worldwide.
Shipping from the UK.
For items under 2 Kg (packed weight) this is very easy. Royal Mail has a simple price planner based on weight and size. Also you can use a ‘signed for’ option at an additional cost to give you peace of mind and confirmation of receipt. You can purchase additional insurance should the Royal Mail standard compensation be insufficient. Check out the Special Delivery option as it may be more cost effective with the increased compensation, signature and guaranteed next day delivery.
See their current price plans here http://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/files/RM_OurPrices_Mar2014a.pdf
Royal Mail will send items up to 2Kg anywhere in the world with a simple 2 tier charge – Europe and Rest of the World. It is recommended to get ‘International Signed For’ which is quite a bit more expensive but gives you confirmation of receipt. Please note that they will not send ‘International Signed For’ to PO Boxes except to parts of Africa and The Middle East.
For items over 2 kg it gets more complex. Although based on weight, there is also ‘volumetric weight’ which is where the parcel is larger than expected for the weight. So your crate of Ping Pong balls may be lighter than your Deep Sea Diving kit but they’re going to charge you more.
There are a many different courier and airfreight companies but there are companies who will take your consignment details and offer you the various quotes and services from several different parcel companies. You can try these:
- Parcel2Go : http://www.parcel2go.com
- Parcel Monkey : http://www.parcelmonkey.co.uk
Don’t forget to include the packaging into your weight and size calculations or you could end up losing money on the transaction.
